Educational Promotion Showcasing Barbara’s Puffins Cereals Offers Thousands of Prizes Instantly plus a Grand Prize Trip to Maine — Marlborough, Mass. (April 8, 2013) – Barbara’s, known for making snacks and cereals made from simple, wholesome ingredients, has launched a new instant-win promotion called Discover Puffins. Discover Puffins is a promotion offering consumers the chance to win thousands of prizes instantly, including a grand prize trip to Maine to see puffins up close.

Through a series of short and fun questions, Discover Puffins encourages consumers to learn more about the endangered puffin bird, the National Audubon Society’s Project Puffin and Barbara’s Puffins cereals. Prizes awarded instantly include puffin beanie toys, DVDs, kids’ pajamas and other merchandise, an adopted puffin through Project Puffin, Barbara’s canvas tote bags, coupons for Barbara’s products and more.

“The puffin was the original inspiration for Barbara’s largest cereal line, and our Discover Puffins contest is a fun and entertaining way for family members young and old to celebrate these adorable seabirds with the chance to win some incredible prizes,” said Federico Meade, vice president of marketing for North America at Barbara’s. “We know people already love our line of delicious Puffins cereals, and we’re excited to use this campaign to educate and introduce new consumers to the brand, while increasing awareness of our stewardship efforts around puffin conservation. With three ways to enter and an assortment of fantastic prizes, we’re anticipating a great response from Puffins fans everywhere.”

From April 3-June 30, consumers can enter the Discover Puffins contest via the Barbara’s Facebook page, the Discover Puffins website, or their mobile devices through QR codes found on all Puffins cereals. Upon entry, users are prompted to answer five brief questions about Atlantic Puffins and Barbara’s Puffins cereals. After submitting their entry, consumers will automatically see if they’ve won an instant prize, and everyone who enters will be included in the grand prize drawing for a custom four-day, three-night vacation to Maine valued at $5,000. The trip includes airfare, lodging, and a puffin adventure excursion for up to four people.

The Discover Puffins quiz also introduces consumers to Project Puffin, a National Audubon Society effort of which Barbara’s has been a long-time supporter. Celebrating its 40th anniversary in restoring puffins to their former habitat off the coast of Maine, Project Puffin also includes programs like Adopt-A-Puffin, which allows consumers to adopt and name their very own puffin. As part of this program, consumers can collect 15 UPCs from the bottom of any Barbara’s cereal, send them in with an application, and Barbara’s will adopt a puffin on their behalf.
